Health Minister Inaugurates National Health Laboratory Working Group (NHLWG) In Ghana

 Kwaku Agyeman - Manu, Minister for Health has Inaugurated the National Health Laboratory Working Group (NHLWG) in Ghana.

 The NHLWG is to essentially see to the review and finalization of the National Health Laboratory policy which was formulated in 2013.

The Committee constitute some key stakeholders but not limited to the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture represented by the Veterinary Services Department,

 the Ministry of Trade and Industry represented by the Ghana Standard Authority and Ghana Accreditation Service and the Academia as well as some agencies under the Ministry of Health which includes the FDA, Ghana Health Service, CHAG, GAQHI, Teaching Hospitals amongst others.

 Mr Agyeman - Manu who formally inaugurated the Working Group reiterated the Terms of Reference as follows:

Provide advice and expertise to the government on health laboratory matters; Amend the National Laboratory Policy and/or Strategic Plan or develop the National Laboratory Quality Policy and Strategic Plan, and at a later stage the operational plans;

Seek advice from, and reach consensus with, the community of stakeholders of the health laboratory network as part of the policy dialogue phase; actively explain and promote the importance of quality laboratory services in the country.

 According to him, the establishment of the National Health Laboratory Working Group is a testament of the Government’s commitment to excellence in healthcare.

The Minister further encouraged the committee members to carry out their assignment to the best of their ability in the best interest of the country.

Rev Prof Patrick Ferdinand Ayeh -Kumi, Chairman of the Committee, in his response assured the Minister and the entire Ministry that, the Committee will ensure to deliver on its mandate beyond expectations to achieve a universal health coverage in the country.
