PRIORITISE EDUCATION MINISTER'S INITIATIVE OF RAISING 1,000 ENGINEERS BY 2030 - GOVERNMENT TOLD.

Government has been urged to implement across the country, the initiative of the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, to raise 1,000 young engineers in his constituency by 2030.
Dr Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe constituency in the Ashanti region, has been sponsoring 100 brilliant students yearly in the area to do engineering, at the University of Mines (UMaT) in Tarkwa.
The idea of technology and engineering provided the building blocks for developing countries to ensure speedy growth in the areas construction, security, banking, agriculture, transport among others.
Mr Michael Amoah, a Political Activist, who disclosed this in an interview with the Daily Searchlight on Friday, said engineering innovation has been the priority of the advanced countries after the second world war.
According to him, road and school building, cars and security equipment manufacturing in developed nations including Germany, Russia, United States were done by locally trained engineers.
The Political Activist stressed that since these engineers were produced locally, production costs of projects were minimal coupled with high quality of job done.
Mr Amoah, who doubles as the Personal Aid (PA) to the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, said the importation of engineers accounted to the depreciation of the cedi since they are paid in foreign currencies.
" Dr Adutwum's initiative would reduce the burden of importing engineers from advanced countries to take up government projects. This is laudable and must be replicated nationwide". He stated.
The Political Activist appealed to Parliamentarians, Council of State members, the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), the Presidency among other stakeholders, to adopt the initiative as a policy document.
Mr Amoah expressed gratitude to Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum for initiating Science, Technology, Engineering,Mathematics (STEM) education among other results - oriented policies to change the country's educational narrative.
He admonished residents of the country especially education based Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non - Governmental Organisations (NGOs), media practitioners, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other stakeholder institutions to support the vision of Dr Adutwum.
