Background

CUFA Global, short for Central Única das Favelas, is an internationally recognized organization that focuses on social, cultural, and sports - based initiatives to uplift and empower residents of favelas (informal urban settlements in Brazil).

It aims to enhance the self-esteem and skills of favela inhabitants by providing opportunities for growth, education, and engagement.

Founded in Brazil, CUFA has expanded its reach to over 41 countries, focusing on reducing inequalities, combating hunger, and promoting sustainability, human rights, and gender equity.

One of its flagship projects, the G20 Favelas, endorsed by UNESCO, is a series of international conferences held across 3,000 favelas to address social and economic challenges faced by marginalized communities.

During the pandemic, CUFA launched impactful programs like "Mães da Favela," which provided essentials like food baskets and free internet access to families, significantly impacting over 17 million people.

This initiative, along with others, earned CUFA multiple awards for its humanitarian work.

The organization also focuses on nurturing local talent and creating business and social impact opportunities through initiatives like the Favela Business School and sports events like the Taça das Favelas, a soccer tournament bringing together favela teams.
