 Fianko The chief of Fianko in the Ahafo region, Nana Kwaku Akutia Adinkra Efufful 1, has enrolled a total of 337 students of the Fianko Municipal Authority (M/A) Basic School onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He has also distributed a total of one thousand (1,000) branded exercise books to all children of school going age in the community to ensure effective teaching and learning.

The kind gesture, according to Nana Kwaku Akutia, he said the mov was geared towards making healthcare affordable and accessible, and to ensure a holistic education in the rural community.

 In his address at a ceremony to climax the golden jubilee anniversary celebration of the Fianko M/A Basic School on Friday 8th December, 2023 at Fianko, he said plans were far advanced to establish Senior High School (SHS) to compliment basic education in the area.

The anniversary celebration was held on the theme, "celebrating 50 years of holistic education; honouring our past, celebrating our success and accomplishments, inspiring our future".

Fianko M/A Basic school which was started on 1973 with 52 pupils and two teachers only at the primary level, currently has a total of 337 students and 15 teachers in Kindergarten (KG), primary and JHS levels.

The golden jubilee was targeted at soliciting funds towards the building of a befitting accommodation for teachers in the community, who are currently lodging at churches mission houses, sheds of cocoa buying companies and other uncomfortable places.

 Nana Kwaku Akutia stated that ensuring effective education requires the full contribution of stakeholders including parents and teachers, the Ghana Education Service (GES), education - oriented NGOs, School Management Committee (SMC), traditional rulers, faith - based organisations and government among others.

The chief emphasised that it takes the commitment, passion, love and patriotism to train children in rural areas adding that "let us all invest in the education of our future leaders as a service to God and country".

As part of the 5th anniversary celebration, Nana Kwaku Akutia presented awards to pioneer teachers of the school and individuals who have contributed to the development of the school, including James Kojo Kpormegbe, the Assembly Member of Fianko Electoral Area.

He expressed his appreciation to founding teachers and students, past and present teachers, SMC and PTA executives, traditional rulers and other partners, for immense role to the success of the school.

The Head teacher of Fianko M/A JHS, Benjamin Amankwaa, on behalf of parents and teachers of the school, hailed Nana Kwaku Akutia and his elders for the massive investment in education of in the community.

He bemoaned the lack of library facility, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory in the school as a hindrance to effective teaching and learning in the rural community.

Mr Amankwaa disclosed that the chief and his elders have earmarked a vast land for the construction of 10 out of 20 - units apartments accommodation for teachers in the community,

 The Head teacher appealed to individuals, cooperate organisations, NGOs, philanthropists, government and foreign donors to contribute their quota to the projects stressing that "together we can make Fianko great and strong".
