In a powerful display of leadership and compassion, the Hon Member of Parliament (MP) for Sissala West Constituency, Mohammed Sukparu, has donated GHS160,000 to support Ashida Abass Nyasu, a 29-year-old nurse battling kidney failure.

Ashida, a dedicated healthcare worker at Tumu Municipal Hospital in the Sissala East Municipality, was diagnosed with the condition on January 14, 2025, at the Upper West Regional Hospital.

 Community Support and Financial Breakdown

According to Radford FM in Tumu, the financial contributions toward Ashida’s kidney transplant in India, which is estimated to cost GHS800,000, are as follows:

Silver Collection/MoMo Contributions – GHS270,000

Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) – GHS100,000

Mr Mohammed Sukparu (Hon MP for Sissala West) – GHS160,000

Radford Morning Show Donations – GHS2,200

Total Amount Raised: GHS532,200

Outstanding Balance: GHS267,800

Despite these substantial contributions, Ashida’s family is still in dire need of GHS267,800 to facilitate her journey to India for the life-saving transplant. The public is therefore urged to continue supporting this noble cause.

Providing an update on her sister’s condition at Radford FM, Bashira revealed that Ashida is currently undergoing dialysis at a private facility in Accra.

Encouragingly, her condition has improved, although she requires dialysis twice a week, with each session, along with necessary medication, costing about GHS1,460.

In a glimmer of hope, one of Ashida’s brothers has stepped forward as a potential kidney donor, and medical tests are currently being conducted to determine compatibility. Bashira expressed deep gratitude to all those who have contributed toward her sister’s recovery.

Mr Mohammed Sukparu’s remarkable generosity underscores the crucial role of compassionate and service-oriented leaders in governance. His intervention not only exemplifies the power of selfless leadership but also highlights the importance of electing individuals who are committed to the welfare of their constituents.

At a time when countless Ghanaians struggle with life-threatening medical conditions due to financial constraints, such benevolence serves as a powerful reminder that true leadership extends beyond policymaking; it is about touching lives, offering hope, and inspiring collective action.
