The Ahafo Kenyasi Circuit under Goaso Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana has over the weekend, celebrated "Traditional Sunday" where members ddressed n traditional attire and participate in a service that incorporates cultural elements.

At a joint service held on last sunday in Kenyasi No 2, congregants featured traditional dressing including the vibrant kente cloth, a symbol of national identity, and the smock, a popular attire for both men and women, often worn with traditional accessories such as hats and scarves.

Others, including children, the youth, women and the aged and people from diverse cultural backgrounds elegantly glittered in their favourite agbada, other different types of local clothes nicely sewed in several styles, designs and colours.

Worshipers from different cultures in the country namely Ga, Frafa, Akan, Ewe, Hawsa, Gonja among other ethnic groups dressed, sung and danced according to their customs and traditions during the church service.

Brother Joseph Antwi Boasiako, Goaso Diocesan Lay Movement Council Chairman, advocated for a continuously and consciously planned roadmap to motivate Ghanaians to become accustomed with traditional dressing, music, food and beverages, medicine, languages and other indigenous traditions in their daily activities.

He further admonishes other religious denominations and the rest of the Methodist Churches around the world to make make worship and other religious activities purely traditional to safeguard the originality of the African traditions and customs.

The Council Chairman told reporters that apart from the Lay Movement Week celebration which coincided with the traditional Sunday, Goaso diocese celebrates 10th anniversary of establishment, the Methodist Church Ghana has also turns 190 since its inception in the country, all in 2025.

The Superintendent Minister, Kenyasi Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev Kofi Annan, entreated Methodist faithfuls and the church community to focuse on sanctification and the transforming effect of faith on the character of a Christian.

John Wesley, the Minister indicated, held that entire sanctification was the foundational doctrine of the Methodist faith, and its propagation was the reason God brought Methodists into existence adding that "This is what we are born to.

Let's honour it". V/R Kofi Annan stated that though Scripture is considered the authority, Methodists also look to Christian tradition, the new birth, assurance, imparted righteousness, and obedience to God manifested in performing works of piety.

He said Methodism is known for its rich musical tradition, and Charles Wesley was instrumental in writing much of the denomination's hymns teaching that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for all of humanity and that salvation is achievable for all.

Methodist worship distinctiveness includes the observance of the monthly communion, the watchnight service on New Year's Eve, as well as altar calls in which people are invited to experience the new birth and entire sanctification.

Its emphasis on growing in grace after the new birth (and after being entirely sanctified) led to the creation of class meetings for encouragement in the Christian life. In addition to evangelism, Methodism is known for its charity, as well as support for the sick, the poor, and the afflicted through works of mercy that "flow from the love of God and neighbor" evidenced in the entirely sanctified believer.

These ideals, the Social Gospel, are put into practice by the establishment of hospitals, orphanages, schools and other institutions to follow Christ's command to spread the gospel and serve all people.

Methodists are historically known for their adherence to the doctrine of nonconformity to the world, reflected by their traditional standards of a commitment to humility, prohibition of gambling, regular attendance at class meetings, and daily expression of love to mankind and nature.
