According to them, they have visited the President at the Jubilee House and he (Nana Addo) has also visited them at their various communities many times throughout his tenure and promised to fix the road in all his meetings with the chiefs.

The Saamanhene added that nananom have sent series of petitions to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo - Addo, past and current Ministers of Roads and Highways, Ahafo regional minister, George Yaw Boakye and the various District Chief Executives to fix the stretch but to no avail.

"We have given the government up to August 6,2024 to order contractor Kofi Job construction limited to return to the road to complete the project. Unending protests and demonstrations will be the order of the day until our request is met" he reiterated.

Nana Akwasi Agyemang, the Acting President, Ahafo Kenyasi Development Association (AKDA) at a news conference on Thursday 18th July, 2024 in Kenyasi, emphasized that if the contractor do not return to site by August 5, 2024, a mammoth demonstration will be held against the government.

The news conference was attended by all the sub - chiefs in the three paramount areas, officials of AKDA, the various youth associations, and a section of residents of the enclave to present their grievances to the pressmen.

Nana Agyemang expressed disappointment in government on the $9.1 million funds paid by Newmont Gold to the contractor, Kofi Job construction Limited for the asphaltic construction of the raod, which has not been accounted for.

The President of AKDA indicated that chiefs and residents of the area were depressed whenever they recall series of promises made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo - Addo and the Minister of Roads and Highways to fix the Kenyasi - Hwediem road and not honoured.

He stated that the AKDA, Nananom and the youth of the area had earlier had many encounters with Journalists to register their displeasure on the prolonged fixing of the road to enhance economic growth.

Nana Akwasi Agyemang noted that entreated natives of Ahafo Kenyasi and Hwediem both local and abroad, businesses, institutions, various driver unions, artisans, traders and health care providers to join the scheduled demonstration to drive home their demand.

"While we remained committed to peaceful grievance resolution, we will have no choice than to continue to embark on series of demonstrations until the 8.2km road is fixed

We are hopeful the government and other key state institutions will listen and urgently take concrete steps to fix the Kenyasi - Hwediem stretch" he stressed.

The President of AKDA bemoaned the state of hopelessness and anger of residents of Kenyasi and Hwediem, the extraordinary courage, resilience and capacity to demand for change, and permanently generate hope for the people of the area.
