The New Patriotic Party (NPP) United Kingdom (UK) branch Communication Directorate is increasingly concerned with the escalating rhetoric and statements from key figures within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

That, according to Kwaku Bimpeh, NPP UK Communication Director, it posed serious threat to the peaceful and fair conduct of the upcoming 2024 elections in Ghana.

In a press statement released on Sunday 24th December, 2024, the NPP UK Communications Directorate, cited many instances of unsafe utterances by leading NDC bigwigs as follows

 1. Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, has advised voters to carry cutlasses to voting centers in 2024.

This alarming statement, now under police investigation, is a stark contradiction to Ghana's tradition of peaceful, democratic elections.

2. H E John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, described the 2024 election as a "do or die" affair, a comment that can be interpreted as inciting a confrontational approach to the electoral process.

 3. Asiedu - Nketia, a former General Secretary and now Chairman of the NDC, has made several concerning statements over the years:

“We will use ‘negative violence’ to overturn election outcome." “use violence to reject E - Levy" directed at NDC MPs in 2022.

NDC's inclination towards violence - these sample statements collectively suggest a disturbing trend within the NDC towards promoting violence, especially in the context of the upcoming elections.

The repeated calls for violence and arming of voters directly contradict the essence of democracy, fostering fear, mistrust, and potential violence, which undermines the foundation of free and fair elections.

Mr Kwaku Binpeh urged all political leaders, regardless of affiliations, to prioritize messages that promote unity, peace, and respect for the electoral process, and to refrain from rhetoric that incites unrest.

"We call on civil society organizations, the National Peace Council, the National House of Chiefs, the media, and the security authorities to stand firmly against these developments" he added.

The Communication Director implored that it is essential to assess these statements for potential legal violations and to compel the NDC to repudiate its Deputy General Secretary's incendiary rhetoric.

Obaa Yaa, a Deputy Communications Director of NPP UK emphasised that the party remains steadfast in their commitment to supporting a peaceful, fair, and democratic election process in 2024.

She later invited all parties, leaders, and citizens to join them in this commitment, ensuring that the elections reflect the democratic values we hold dearly.

Long live Ghana, Long live the NPP, Long live NPP UK.
