Enhancing Safe Agro Industry : EPA seizes large quantities of unapproved, expired agro products

The Northern regional Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has seized large quantities of unauthorized and expired agro products in markets and shops within the northern region.

 The agency in collaboration with crop life Ghana, conducted a search to eliminate illegal traders in agro products in the market in order to safeguard farmers and the agriculture sector.

Established under the EPA Act 1994 (Act 490) with the aim of ensuring the sustainable management of the environment and natural resources in Ghana, the EPA is a government agency responsible for protecting, conserving, and enhancing the country's environment. 

With funding support from crop life Ghana, an association working to promote the benefits of modern agricultural technologies, including crop protection products and biotechnology, to help farmers improve crop yields, manage pests and diseases, and enhance food security in Ghana,

the EPA is conducting a region wide sensitization and enforcement exercise to sanitize the agro industry of the northern region.

 It is aim at educating farmers, agro traders and to fish out illegal and aspired agro products in the markets. This is the first time the EPA is conducting such a broader exercise in the northern region.

Northern Regional Director of EPA, Abu Iddrisu said the agency is taking notes of all illegal or approved chemicals to ensure that their sources are traced and blocked and also to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to book.

 The Programmes Manager of Crop life Ghana, Kadir Rashad said his outfit would continue to collaborate with the EPA to ensure continuous training and sensitization of farmers in agro products dealers.
