Roads, electricity transmission poles, water pipes and other installations have been destroyed by the activities of illegal miners at Wasa - Dadieso in the Central region with gross impunity.
The visible effects of irresponsible and illegal mining is revealing with miners now carrying out their activities right in the center of the town exposing buildings to possible collapse and inhabitants to danger.
On both sides of the Ayanfuri - Wasa Akropong road, the miners are operating at areas which are in closer proximity to the highway and have completely desecrated the shoulders of the road on both sides.
Bridges along the Dadieso -Japa stretch are likely to be overtopped during heavy rains and portions of the road likely to be washed away.
Some telecommunication broadband cables have also been completely destroyed and water supply pipes have not been spared either.
The illegal miners have also glaringly dug the beneath of electricity transmission poles causing imminent fall of the poles.
Shockingly this huge illegal mining site in the Dadieso township is allegedly owned and operated by the Assemblyman for the area, Yaw Darko.
Other sites, according to what Metro TV News gathered are also allegedly owned by an individual known as Mr Bekoe.
The chief of Wassa - Dadieso, Nana Oteng Ababio II is extremely worried about the activities of these illegal miners but says he is helpless since the miners appear to be having a strong backing.
Several accidents caused by trucks moving from the galamsey site onto the highway without any signal have occurred.
Continuous activities of these galamseyers in the area places commuters at risk while the Chief is signaling authorities to help deal with the situation.
