St Peters Catholic Parish, Ahafo Kenyasi No 2 Celebrates Golden Jubilee Of Existence

 The St Peters Parish in Kenyasi No 2 in the Ahafo region, under the Catholic Diocese of Goaso, on September 14, 2024 at Kenyasi, climaxed the anniversary celebration of 50 years of establishment from 1973 to 2023.

It was held on the theme, "The Lord has done great things for us. And we are glad (Psalm 126:3)".

The anniversary was officially launched on 12th September, 2023 at Kenyasi No 2 St Peters Catholic Church, where a brief history of the parish was read and the activities for the yearlong programme were highlighted.

 On December 17, 2024, anniversary carol Night event was held featuring singing groups from Hwidiem, Wamahinso, Ntotroso and Our Lady of Apostle (OLA) Girls Senior High School (SHS).

 The Parish also hosted the Diocesan Women Congress and six seminarians were ordained as Deacons on 4th to 7th January, 2024. Missionary Child Celebration was organised for the children in the Parish from 4th to 11th February, 2024.

 As part of the anniversary celebration, the Parish donated assorted foodstuffs and building materials to OLA Girls SHS in Kenyasi on 21st April, 2024 during the Lenten Month.

On Sunday 7th April, 2024, Easter Concert was organised to showcase the significance of the golden jubilee of the Parish's existence, with Most Rev Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Bishop of Goaso Diocese as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Mother's Month was celebrated with a retreat at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kenyasi No 2 New Site on 13th May, 2024. A total of 24 members of the Parish donated blood to stock the Kenyasi District Hospital blood bank.

 A retreat was held for all men in the Parish at St Francis of Asisi Catholic church in Kenyasi No 1 on Saturday 23rd June, 2024. "The Youth Month", 19th to 21st July, 2024 witnessed a Youth Camp at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Kenyasi No 2 New Site.

According to Robert Bienni, the anniversary planning Committee chairman, Kenyasi No 2 together with the under listed stations were all under Mim Parish before 1973; Kenyasi No 1, Hwidiem, Acherensua, Wamahinso, Nkaseim, Mehame, Ntotroso, Apenimadi, Gyedu, Koforidua, Dadiesoaba, Dokyikrom, Camp, Kramokrom, Amanfrom, Kenyasi No 3, and Nkrankrom.

The rest are Twabidi, Konkontreso, Donkorkrom, Kwakyekrom, Sienchiem, Amomaso, Yawusukrom, Akotosu and Kwahu No 2. On 4th November, 1973, he said, during the maiden pastoral visit of Rt Rev James Kwadwo Owusu, who had been declared Bishop of Sunyani the month before, elevated Kenyasi to a Parish status.

 The Committee Chairman added that Rev Fr Elisha O'Shea, was made the Parish Priest and in 1974, through efforts of Odeneho Dadeako Nsiah Ababio, the Omanhene of Kenyasi No 2 and the church, moved into the new mission house.

Mr Augustine Adanse Bonna was elected the first Parish Catechist until his retirement in 2019. The first Diocesan Priest of the Parish was Rev Fr Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi in 1990 ( now the Most Rev Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani).

 With the increase in population in the various outstations, five Parishes namely Blessed Sacrament in Nkasiem, Holy Spirit in Hwediem, St Joseph Quasi in Acherensua, St Joseph in Wamahinso and Ntotroso were created out of Kenyasi No 2.

Parish Presidents are Peter Kwame Adu (1974 - 1981), Paul Kwayie (1981-1995), Francis K Kwakye (1995-2003) Johnson Appiah (1998-1999), Peter Kwarteng Amaning (2003-2020) and James Nsiah Boakye (2021 till date).

Stations of Kenyasi Parish are Kenyasi No 1, Kenyasi No 2 New Site, Kenyasi No 3, Koforidua, Dokyikrom, Asempaneye, Akosa, Kramokrom, Camp, Yawbrefo, Kwakuri, Tawiakrom, Obengkrom, Bogyampa, Asamang, and Kojokrom.

 Special awards of recognition were presented to individuals who have uniquely contributed to the growth and sustainability of the Catholic faith in the Parish during the period under review.
