Seven Communities, Anum, Kamirekrom, Sikafremogya, Adwumam, Manhyia No 4, Pafo Nkwanta and Nseinua in the Asunafo South District, have benefited from $100,000 mechanized Water Station.

The project, which is wholly owned and managed by the communities, was geared towards improving water quality and access in rural areas.

It was jointly initiated by the Asunafo South District Assembly (ASDA), Project Maji Foundation, and International Water and Sanitation Center (IRC).

Technical support was provided by the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC).

The Water Stations would be powered by technology provided by Project Maji Foundation (PMF) to use solar energy to mechanise existing water projects, and digitalise its payment system using Electronic cards.

I'v focused on extensive water provision in my tenure due to the perennial water crisis in our area, Frank Aduse Poku, District Chief Executive (DCE), indicated this at Pafo Nkwanta in the Ahafo region.

He entreated beneficiary communities to welcome the payment plan of the water stations in order to get enough funds to fix them when faulty saying that this will ensure they last longer.

The DCE implored opinion leaders and other stakeholders "monitor the activities of the various projects in the district. Our collaborative efforts in development is key to success".

Mr Frank Aduse Poku expressed gratitude to IRC, Project Maji Foundation, Safe Water Network, Catholic Relief Services among other partners for supporting the Asunafo South District in potable water provision.

Maintain good personal and environmental hygiene within and outside the water stations for your own health and safety, Amol Parker, Technical Director for Africa, Project Maji emphasized.

" the 20 pesewas cost of buying water from the station is for the upkeep and routine rehabilitation of the projects, including payment of the stations caretakers" he noted.

Jacob Ntiamoah Adade, Ahafo Regional Economic Planning Officer, on behalf of the Regional Minister, Yaw Boakye, said some 600,000 households in the region would be hooked - up in Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) by 2030.

He pledged the full commitment of the ARCC towards the realisation of the WASH target of Asunafo South District Assembly adding "together we can make Ahafo region great and strong".
