The Churches of Christ Assemblies in Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions with support from Village of Hope Orphanage in Gomoa Feteh in the central region, has donated relief items worth GH¢200,000 to flood victims in Yeji in the Bono East and Buipe in the Savanna regions.
Relief items including bags of rice, bales of used clothes, bags of Maize, many tubers of yam, packs of water among other item were presented to 19 affected communities.
Presenting the items to officers of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Buipe and Yeji, Bro Rexford Agyare Minta, Gospel Minister, Ahafo, Bono and Bono East, said the exercise was part of the church's corporate social responsibility.
As a vibrant church, he indicated, we felt the pains of the victims of the spillage especially women and children who are rendered homeless and still counting their loss.
Evangelist Agyare Minta noted that the church therefore saw the need to make this timely donation to lessen the pain, hardship and frustration being experienced by residents affected by the flood.
The Gospel Minister called on other churches as well as organisations and individuals to be the keepers and comforters of the victims by supporting them in this time of need.
He entreated Ghanaians to be each other's keeper in all situations including hunger, natural disasters, pandemics and other unforseen circumstances saying "showing love to mankind, is love for God".
Mr Frederick Ntana Ndila, the Pru East District NADMO Director, who received the items, thanked the Church of Christ for coming to the aid of victims affected by bagre dam spillage, and implored other religious organizations and groups to emulate.
He appealed to government institutions, NGOs, foreign donors and individual philanthropists to donate relief items to flood victims in the Bono East region adding that " it is not only Akosombo, north and central Tongue districts are affected".
The District NADMO Director cautioned residents of the country especially the Pru East district to strictly adhere to all fire safety protocols in order to prevent perennial bush and domestic fire outbreak.
