As a knowledge partner of the G20 and an active participant in its Digital Economy Working Group, UNESCO has expressed its strong support for the G20’s Ministerial Declaration, which endorses the promotion of information integrity and trust in the digital environment.

The Maceió Ministerial Declaration on Digital Inclusion for All underscores the importance of due diligence, transparency and accountability in digital platforms, aligning fully with the Internet for Trust initiative and the UNESCO’s Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms.

The Declaration also stresses the critical need to promote information integrity, ensuring the availability of reliable, diverse and accurate information in a timely manner to mitigate political, social and economic instability and to counter radicalization and violent extremism, while facilitating responses to environmental challenges.

As part of these efforts, UNESCO also contributed to the process of developing two pivotal reports: Possible Approaches to Promoting Information Integrity and Trust in the Digital Environment, and Mapping the information integrity debate to inform the agenda of the working group.

Other instruments and networks from the Internet for Trust initiative is part of the Organization’s contribution to shaping the global discourse on information integrity and environmental action.
