Ahafo Region Is A No Go Area For Electoral Violence Perpetrators - DCOP James Annor Warns

Ahead of the December 2 and 7 Presidential and Parliamentary Polls 2024, the Deputy Commissioner Of Political (DCOP) Mr James Annor, the Ahafo Regional Commander, has warned that the region is a no go area for electoral violence perpetrators.

 He stated that Ahafo will be the most peaceful and safest region before, during and after the December general elections emphasising that the security election taskforce will crush every violent deed without fear or favour.

 DCOP Annor indicated these on Tuesday 19th December, 2024 in Goaso, the capital at a day's Regional Security Elections Taskforce (RSET) and stakeholders meeting in the runups to this year's elections.

 The meeting was attended by the Ghana Armed Forces, National Security, National Investigation Bureau, Fire Service, Immigration, Police, and Ambulance services, Journalists, Garages, Wood Merchants, Tailors and Dressmakers Associations among other key stakeholders.

 It was aimed at detailing laid down processes and protocols ahead of the December general elections by the Taskforce and the Electoral Commission thereby allaying fear and alarm, and deterring evil doers.

 The Regional Commander noted that though Ahafo region is famously known for violence during every general election, 2024 will be historic for being a violence - free polls stressing that bad people will be dealt with ruthlessly without been bias.

He emphasised that the RSET consisting of all the various security services in the region will patrol the length and breath of Ahafo both daybreak and nightfall before, during and after the voting day, in order to protect lives and properties. 

DCOP Annor cautioned that "robust security is detailed to the over 810 polling stations within the six constituencies in the region to deal with every unscrupulous activity"

 "Officers of the Ghana Armed Forces will be stationed on key locations as buck up. The earlier evil doers stay off electoral processes, the better. I implore individuals and institutions to play their roles to make the elections successful".

The Regional Commander thanked the Police Service led by the Inspector - General, Dr George Akufu Dampare, for resourcing the regional command to function effectively adding that together we can make Ahafo region great and strong. 

Mr George Yaw Boakye, the Ahafo Regional Minister, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the Taskforce and the Electoral Commission for contributing their quota to the development of electoral processes and successes in the area. 

He entreated all and sundry especially the young persons in the various political parties in the region to avoid sensationalism of issues on social media spaces, and eliminate misinformation, disinformation and malformation before, during and after the polls.

 The Minister, who is the Head of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), charged the Taskforce to deal with every violent activity during the voting day including the usage of unlicensed vehicles, motorcycles and illegal security groups.

Mr Emmanuel Kyei, the Deputy Ahafo Regional Director, Electoral Commission (EC), said plans were far - advanced to transport the reprinted ballot papers of the region from Accra, which was destroyed alongside Volta region due to detected serial number errors at the printing house.
