Media Practitioners In Ahafo Region Schooled On Effective Election 2024 Coverage And Reporting

 Journalists in the Ahafo region of Ghana, on Friday, attended a day's training workshop on effective election 2024 coverage and reporting at Goaso, the regional capital.

 The workshop, titled "ensuring peaceful 2024 polls : the media as a major stakeholder", brought together media practitioners from across print, online, FM radio stations, Television stations, freelancers, to acquired knowledge and skills on changing trends in election coverage and reporting.

Participants from GBC, GNA, Ghanaian Times, Peace FM, United Television, Media General, Kessben FM and TV, Success FM, Rejoice FM, Hammers Radio, Adunu FM, Nananom FM, Jewel FM, Genesis FM, asempadawuro.com and Newspaper, and the National Enquirer Newspaper among others.

 Media men and women were taken through the various voting center procedures, ethical and responsible reporting, security details, guarding against misinformation, disinformation and malformation, sensationalism, embellishment, and hate speech while media consultants including Charles Koomson, Former Regional Manager, GNA shared their experiences.

The workshop was also attended by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), staff of the Ahafo Regional Co - ordinating Council (ARCC), Past and current Regional Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) among other key stakeholder institutions. 

An Acting Regional Chairperson of the GJA for Bono, Ahafo and Bono East, Regina Benneh Siaw, registered her pleasure for experiencing such a well coordinately organized workshop for media personalities in the newly created region saying that this is a milestone achievement and a plus to journalism in Ahafo. 

She admonished practitioners to strictly verify every source of information and cross - check facts before publication on mainstream and social media platforms, and that accuracy is better than mere speed. 

Md Benneh Siaw urged the beneficiary Journalists to be guided by their good conscience, integrity, patriotism and the sustainability of the country's democracy and peaceful co - existence adding that "be fair, firm and balanced, uphold team work and safety of yourself".

 Mr George Yaw Boakye, the Ahafo Regional Minister, in his remarks, entreated practitioners on both mainstream and social media spaces to avoid politics of insults, personality attacks, defamation of character, ethnocentric utterances on their various medium ahead of the December 2 and 7 polls.

He hailed the forbearers of Ghana for championing freedom of speech, media plurality and independence of Journalism in the country while eulogizing the current generation for upholding and improving it imploring beneficiaries not to abuse it. 

The Regional Minister charged members of the press to uphold professionalism and best practices using the ethics of the landscape emphasising that the ARCC is ready to resource media professionals in Ahafo region to excel. 

Mr Collins Yaw Sugulo (King CY), the General Manager, Goaso - based Genesis FM, on behalf of the beneficiary Journalists, expressed appreciation to the interim Executives of Ahafo Media Group for the timely organization of the historic training workshop for media practitioners in the region stressing that "posterity will forever be grateful to you". 

He promised to put to use, the unending skills and knowledge acquired at the workshop for personal enhancement and society's growth noting that " let's all contribute our widow's mite to make 2024 election in Ahafo the most peaceful and safest".
