The Diaspora Progressive Movement (DPM), a Think Tank, has opined that the country urgently needs a Director from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to be in the helm of affairs at the presidency to fix the mess in the country.
According to them, the move would halt the various corrupt practices in government, general mismanagement of the economy, current unbearable economic hardship and the high rate of unemployment among others in the country.
The President of the Diaspora Progressive Movement, a United States of America (USA) based group, Dr Lawrence Appiah Osei, disclosed these on Saturday in an interview with Journalists on the state of affairs in Ghana.
He said should Ghanaians allow the ongoing fiscal indiscipline created by Nana Akufo - Addo and Dr Bawumia led administration to last further, the next government in 2025 will find it difficult to even pay salaries, let alone embarking on developmental projects.
Dr Appiah noted that the country, before the approval of the IMF Programme, was forced to accept a Director from the IMF at the Bank of Ghana (BoG), who was to streamline the central Bank's expenditure.
"the Vice President of USA, Kamara Harris, during her recent visit to Ghana also recommended that a Director from her country was posted to the Finance Ministry to control the activities there" he
The President of DPM stressed that there was an urgent need for a Director from the IMF or USA at the presidency to put things in order for Ghana, especially the current menace of 'loot and share' of the country's scarce resources.
Dr Appiah noted that the then candidate Akufo - Addo in 2016, during the electioneering campaign, warned that anyone who wanted to come to his government to enrich himself or herself, should better go to the private sector.
"This same man did not see anything wrong and the need to let Ghanaians know that he is also not happy to have USD 1million, €300,000 and millions of Cedis stolen from his Minister of Sanitation and Water Resource's room" he stated.
The President of DPM indicated that Nana Akufo - Addo, while accepting Mrs Cecilia Dapaah's resignation letter, said he is confident that at the end, her integrity, while in office, would be established, and that he regretted that she is leaving his government.
Dr Appiah lamented that President Akufo - Addo, instead of merging the Sanitation and Water Resource Ministry with another Ministry to reduce government expenditure, has quickly appointed a replacement of Mrs Cecilia Dapaah.
He said at a parliamentary hearing, the Chief Director at the Land’s Commission was bold to tell our representatives that he has hired a private land guard to protect government lands instead of employing the services of our security institutions
The President of DPM emphasised that when you put all these mess together with how Mr Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, the Energy Minister, was sacked, clearly indicates that, the country is suffering from leadership crisis.
The President of DPM expressed disappointment with the media, religious leaders, the various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and traditional authorities among other stakeholder institutions, for remaining silent under this unprecedented corrupt administration.
"the best solution for the country is to have a Director from the IMF or USA at the presidency to fix the mess there before the next government takes over in January 2025" he implored.
