Potential sights and scenes in the Ahafo will be fully developed by the newly formed National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to become standard tourist attraction sites, to boost the local economy of the area, Charity Gardiner, the Regional Minister, has assured.

She bemoaned how the region is naturally endowed with wonderful and beautiful places of attraction but have not been developed to allow holiday-makers and revelers to patronise them assuring that tourism and the hospitality sector in the region will witness improvement in my era.

The Regional Minister reecoed that as part of the reseting Ghana agenda of the ruling NDC, various tourist attraction sites in the country will see massive face-lift, and that other potential sites will be developed to earn more income to the nation's kitty.

In the Ahafo region of Ghana, is the White - Necked Rock Fowl Sanctuary in Asumura, a home to one of Ghana's last remaining populations of the white - necked rock fowl. It is considered an endangered and threatened species which can be seen in the area, 45 minutes drive from Goaso, the regional capital.

Other notable sites Includes the climbing challenge of the Bonsam Bepo (Devil's Hill) in Sankore, the famous Mim Bour (stone) for panoramic viewing of plantations and communities, Tano River gods, Various forest reserves among other traditional cultural festivals.

Miss Gardiner stated these on Friday at Goaso when the Ahafo regional directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) presented some boxes of chocolates to her at his office as part of activities to mark this year's National Chocolate Day (NCD).

The GTA in the region had earlier celebrated the Chocolate Day with kids at the Paediatric Unit of the Goaso Government Hospital with a lot of activities including distribution of chocolates to the children and nursing mothers.

Dubbed 'eat chocolate, stay healthy and grow Ghana', this year's celebration was under the theme, "chocolate for all, taste, share, and care" with the aim of promoting Ghanaian made chocolate and cocoa - based products.

The initiative, instituted by the Ghana Tourism Authority in partnership with the Cocoa Processing Company of Ghana, is also aimed at shifting the attention of the youth from engaging in sexual activities towards showcasing love to their loved ones through a gift of chocolate.

Miss Gardiner stressed that the NDC is committed to the sustainable development of tourism through the deployment of the best technology, effective regulation and multi - agency partnerships, Public - Private Partnerships, and stakeholder partnerships.

"We will also ensure aggressive marketing and robust investment promotion, uplifting industry service, safety and health standards, enhancing accountability and shared responsibility" she reiterated.

Dr Paulina Adjubi, Head of the Paediatric Unit, Goaso Government Hospital, on behalf of the facility expressed gratitude to the GTA in the Ahafo region for the love shown to the children and nursing mothers at the ward.

She urged other state and privately - owned institutions, individuals and groups to follow the example of the GTA to donate to the Paediatric Unit in order to ensure reliable and quality health care delivery.

Mr Alfred Asumadu, the Ahafo Regional Director, GTA indicated that the National Chocolate Day which coincided with Valentine's Day was to promote the consumption of all other cocoa - based products including chocolate for their health and economic benefits to the individual and the state.

He emphasised that the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is the main government organisation responsible for the promotion of sustainable development of the tourism industry, both locally and internationally.

The Regional Director said the GTA leads and facilitates the development of products in the industry and regulates the sector through research, licensing and classification of tourism facilities and services, keen on developing the tourism sector with key projects to enhance visitor experience.
