Bono East Region, The Best Destination For Ecotourism And Adventure - Joseph Appiagyei

 The Bono East Regional Director, Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Joseph Appiagyei, has stated that the area is the best choice for ecotourism and adventure destination, and woes tourists and holiday makers to the area.

Tourism, he noted, is doing very well in the Bono East region after it was carved out of the established Brong Ahafo region, citing Kintampo Waterfalls as a clear example in terms of revenue and statistics. 

He indicated that the region started with 111 tourism and hospitality facilities but can now boost of 138 saying that there are also emerging new facilities at Kwame Danso and Yeji enclave. 

Mr Appiagyei stated these on Friday September 20, 2024 in Techiman at the Bono East Regional Tourism Awards Night dubbed, "Celebrating Innovation and Recognizing Excellence in Ghana's Tourism Sector". 

The Regional Director stressed that though the region lacks a grade one restaurant, and major roads leading to these attraction sites and scenes are not in good shape, it can boost of star rated hotels and a lot of budget hotels. 

" the region does not have tour operators, car rentals and other delicate facilities. I am extending invitation to interested potential investors to call on the GTA in Techiman for advice and direction" he revealed.

 Mr Appiagyei appealed to the Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan, and his Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to give priority to the roads leading to such sites in order to enhance effective and comfortable domestic tourism.

The Regional Director entreated the members of the hospitality industry in the newly created region to form associations for hotels, traditional caterers, drinking bars in order to have a strong voice to address the numerous challenges. 

Mr Appiagyei urged other regulatory agencies that issues reports to support in issuing their documents to assist businesses whenever they visit their offices adding that "this will help us fast track their operational license to make their investment meaningful". 

Special awards were presented to 2 Star Hotel of the year, 1 Star Hotel of the year, Budget Hotel of the year, Restaurant Grade 2, Traditional Caterer (Chop Bar), Drinking Spot, and Night Club / Pub of the year.

 The rest are the Site Guide of the year, Tour Guide, Visitor Attraction, Tourism Oriented Media, Digital Icon of the year, Best Event Organiser and Corporate Institution of the year.

 Winners of the awards included Villakam Hotel, Peter and Rose Hotel, Micas Executive Lodge, Kintampo Rest Stop, Atinka Peace Corner (Barima Nkwan), Acapulco Winery and City Cottage Lodge.

The rest are Justice Boakye, Kintampo Waterfalls, Ghana Television (GTV), Samuel Ayammah, Kurubi Benkadi Festival and the Bono East Regional Office of the Forestry Commission.

 Other honorary awards were conferred on Jemima Grace Kodua Antwi Hotel, Techiman Queen Mothers Association, Nana Effah Guakro IV, Obrempong Nana Amponsah - Teng - Kakabo II.

The awards ceremony was attended by Heads of Departments and Agencies, traditional and religious leaders, Journalists, Staff of GTA, Bono East Regional Co - Ordinating Council, section of the public among other dignitaries.
