Mr Hassan Sulemana Tampuli, the Deputy Minister for Transport, has reiterated the Government's commitment to introduce a Nationwide Electric Vehicle Policy (NEVP) to reduce Carbon emissions and curb the emerging Climate Emergency.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gushegu Constituency in the Northern region opines that, Ghana as part of the 196 Countries that signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in 2015 is taking urgent steps to move away from Fusil Based Vehicles (FBV).
He stated that Ghana is fortunate to have excess production capacity of electricity currently and therefore should take advantage to fit into this new System in order to save the country from devastation effects of climate change.
The Deputy Minister disclosed these on Wednesday at Goaso when the Ministries of Transport and Energy, and their Partners working to roll out the "E - Mobility Transportation Policy" held a Stakeholder Consultation Meeting in the Ahafo region.
Mr George Yaw Boakye, the Ahafo Regional Minister, in a remarks read for him, commended President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo - Addo for his vision and commitment to providing a healthy environment with the introduction of the Electric Vehicle Policy.
The Regional Minister pledged the support of residents of the region towards the full realisation of this landmark policy indicating that "we will further engage the populace at their door steps with the policy".
Mrs Doris Duodu, the Deputy Director of Renewable Energy at the Energy Ministry, on behalf of the Ministry of Energy, disclosed that some of these Electric Vehicles are already in use in the capital Accra.
The Deputy Director said government is taking steps to make Vehicle Charging points available across the length and breadth of the country in order for other regions to be able to use these Cars.
Some participants of the Consultative meeting welcomed the new E -vehicle policy and called for more education as the country transition from fusil to electric transportation.
The meeting was attended by Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Journalists, Disability Organisations, the Garages Association.
